When we begin Buddhism we are up against a different religion and its expressions. Especially with the Mahayana Buddhists schools. Taking a look at the Bodhisattva.
There are three types of Bodhisattvas.
1. Since you and I are aspirants for Buddha, every person has Buddha Nature so there for we are Bodhisattvas.
2. There is the Bodhisattva Mahasattva; A Buddhist is like an Arhat, but more towards obtaining Buddha than most others.
3. Then there are the Mahayana Sambhogaya Bodhisattvas’ like the Amida Buddha.
Each Buddha makes a vow or series of vows. The Amida Buddha makes many vows from the Sukhavati Sutra. Shinran Shonin points out that the most important vow is the 18th vow.
“If, when I attain Buddhahood, all sentient beings in the ten directions who recite my name even ten times with sincere mind, faith serene, and wish birth in my country are not born there, may I not attain the supreme and greatest Enlightenment. Only those who commit the five perversities are excluded.”
This is the essence mind of the Gautama Siddhartha fulfilled on his Buddhist enlightenment. The culmination of all enlightenment in the Mahayana Buddhism is the fulfillment of the most perfect wisdom and compassion.
In the sutras, Infinite Life, Infinite Light.
Thusly, Shinran said, “This is the Maitria Bodhisattva ideal fulfilled.” The Miatreya Bodhisattva is referred to as the future Buddha. This is not a prophesy nor a divine second coming of the Buddha as expect in Christ.
Each Bodhisattva expresses themselves as a bodhisattva and Buddha. How is this? There are no time space differences between that of wanting to be fulfilled and that of being fulfilled in the Mahayana Sutras.
The Buddha’s, Maitreya, Amida, Kwan Yon, and others make vows as Bodhisattvas and yet they are Buddha.
This happens because The Buddha’s know the truth and are so credible that they have fulfilled there efforts. So we see them as Buddha’s already.
Since Buddha’s enlightenment was real, so would Amida Buddha’s enlightenment be real, id if Amida Buddha’s enlightenment was real, how much more other Buddhas?
Since there are as many Buddha’s as there are grains of sands on the River Ganges, how can this be false?
The essence of all bodhisattvas is Buddha, and all bodhisattvas have Buddha Nature which are seeds and potential for enlightenment. One rule, never declare yourself a Buddha, not only doe it go against the etiquette, it seems narcissistic.
The Mahayana is a very naturalist metaphysical way to enlightenment. There are many schools, and we should change them from being magical and mystical, and get them to teach the facts of Buddha. You cannot write your name on the Buddha and get a new house and care next week. There is no divine heaven or afterlife that Buddhists Subscribe too. Buddha is not God or a magic genie.
